Art Ceremic: "Artifacts" by Kate McDowell

Porcelain Sculptures by Kat MacDowell

The work of Kate Macdowell and her recent collection of works, Porcelain Artifacts. Kate comes from Portland, Oregon and shows the mix of nature and humanity through a romanticized connection between the human body and the environment. Kate Macdowells inspiration comes from art history, greek mythology. Works are initially formed by hand from a solid piece of porcelain, smaller pieces within the main work are made individually. She is a master of composition, and is able to create wonderful scenes from what would otherwise appear to be a random jumble. Every shard is carefully placed to create something that is beautiful from any angle and have a refreshing depth.

Kate Macdowell: In my work this romantic ideal of union with the natural world conflicts with our contemporary impact on the environment.  These pieces are in part responses to environmental stressors including climate change, toxic pollution, and gm crops.  They also borrow from myth, art history, figures of speech and other cultural touchstones.  In some pieces aspects of the human figure stand-in for ourselves and act out sometimes harrowing, sometimes humorous transformations which illustrate our current relationship with the natural world.  In others, animals take on anthropomorphic qualities when they are given safety equipment to attempt to protect them from man-made environmental threats.  In each case the union between man and nature is shown to be one of friction and discomfort with the disturbing implication that we too are vulnerable to being victimized by our destructive practices.

Art Ceremic: "la cité de la céramique" by Myriam Mechita

Myriam Mechita at sèvres

The City of ceramic puts a spotlight on the work of Myriam Mechita, bringing together the achievements of porcelain produced during his residence in the City, since 2008. The installation is divided into two sections, exposed to the same time, at Sevres in the museum space dedicated to contemporary art and Paris and in his gallery sales. My name is nobody (you'll understand), brings together the achievements in Sevres porcelain produced during his residence in the city. This contains drawings, sculptures and other creations since 2008.

The Infinity plus is the second chapter of this opus created by Myriam Mechita in Paris this time. True to his approach, Myriam Mechita has developed its initial research throughout his regular stays in the workshops of Sèvres - City of ceramics to stay in contact with ceramists, new materials and techniques. Used a model to get a better expression of his feelings and her feelings, his own experience of space and its propensity to deal with what makes sense in nature ...

Mechita Miriam was born in 1974 in Strasbourg and lives and works both in Paris and Berlin. She manipulates materials such as glass beads, sequins, mirrors, polyurethane foam, resin and made drawings in graphite. It combines sculpture to installations that provoke all of the usual sets where animals, cities, landscapes are reflecting a shimmy mood with mysterious animals.
